Virtualisation installation 'should be steady'Businesses should not rush the setting up of virtualised networks, it has been argued.Julian Pletts wrote in a piece for itp.net that virtual server systems should only be implemented once a company has a firm handle on its data requirements and has carried out key consolidation processes in order to make data transfer and upkeep a more manageable process. Mr Pletts wrote: "We may be experiencing the woes of a financial crisis, with ever tightening budgetary constraints, but end-users must think long and hard about heading for virtualisation and make sure that they are fully aware of all the implications." However, he added that there are "clear and undeniable" benefits of virtualisation for many companies. Bo Lykkegaard, research director for European enterprise applications and services at IDC, recently stated that companies could improve disaster recovery readiness by investing in open source applications and virtual office networks to facilitate the rapid transfer of data. ![]() |
