Disaster recovery 'integral to business continuity'Companies need to remember that disaster recovery preparedness is an integral part of business continuity planning, it has been argued.ZDNet reported that many firms are at present disregarding their disaster recovery responsibilities as they feel they have more pressing issues to attend to during the economic downturn. However, the website argued that ensuring a company is still in operation in the future, no matter what is thrown at it, should always be a top priority. As a result, the website noted that having "a [well] thought-out, detailed strategy for business continuity and disaster recovery in a position to keep their systems running when problems occur". Research carried out by Symantec recently showed that the average cost of implementing disaster recovery procedures in the UK stood at £175,000 last year. It also claimed that a quarter of all disaster recovery efforts failed to recover all of the lost data. ![]() |
