Firms must ensure their disaster recovery preparations are top notch, it has been stated.

Windows IT Pro has argued that companies should ensure their disaster recovery plans are up to date and comprehensive enough to cope with any eventuality.

The website stated that disaster recovery should no longer be viewed as "nice to have", but as essential.

It argued that companies businesses should understand which areas of their company are critical to business continuity and ensure that these processes are given top priority for recovery in the event of an emergency.

The ZDNet In Technology blog recently stated that instances of server downtime can have a serious impact on long-term business continuity efforts.

In addition, the blog noted that companies might wish to outsource any data recovery efforts to a professional third-party disaster recovery provider, as in many cases these individuals can retrieve more data than in-house teams.
