Is data backup becoming outmoded?Companies are turning to new forms of data backup in a bid to stay ahead when preparing disaster recovery plans, it has been claimed.Search Storage reported that far from being an outmoded form of data management following the inception of virtualisation and cloud computing, data backup systems can in fact improve disaster recovery preparedness considerably. According to the website, continuous data backup systems enable a firm to store up-to-date records which in the event of a crisis can be invaluable. Furthermore, it advised turning to data deduplication technology to reduce the amount of stored data and in turn to make data recovery and faster and more efficient process. The website recently advised businesses to embrace tiered data storage solutions in order to reduce energy usage and expenditure. It argued that by organising data which is less used on to the same server, this equipment can be powered down leaving more frequently accessed files on other equipment. ![]() |
