Data storage innovation releasedA new innovation in data storage which enables companies to embed applications into the files they are backing up could help reduce recovery times in a crisis, it has been revealed.Mayank Bawa, chief executive office and co-founder of Aster Data, said analytic efficiency could be significantly boosted by bundling applications with data files and would enable companies to process vast quantities of information at a much faster rate than was previously possible. He commented: "I think a lot of analytics will be used [and] a lot of operational applications - things that you need quickly. So these applications are for security, or things where you need to react quickly." According to research carried out by IDC, in 2007, the company estimated the world's digital content to be at 161 billion gigabytes. However, by 2009 this estimate had risen to 487 billion gigabytes. The report attributed the massive rise in data to the spread of digital cameras, cell phones and the social networking phenomenon. ![]() |
