Virtualisation 'boost disaster recovery'Virtual networks could help to improve data security and disaster recovery for businesses, it has been stated.Heidi Biggar, solution marketing principal at Hitachi Data Systems (HDS), said that research carried out by the company showed that more than half of all businesses which employ more than 5,000 members of staff have turned to virtualisation to make disaster recovery easier. She commented: "Server virtualisation enables organisations to expand disaster recovery to more applications and data types, which means greater protection, improved availability - ie less downtime - and lower risk." Elsewhere, BSM Info recently reported that it is important for businesses to maintain their disaster recovery plans in an up-to-date format at all times. The news site argued that when installing new IT infrastructure or updating protocols, it is imperative that this information be fed back into disaster recovery planning to ensure a swift and organised response in a crisis. ![]() |
