Businesses 'ploughing funds into green IT'The world's largest businesses are ploughing a fortune into the development of green IT technologies and switching to more environmentally friendly practices, a new study has shown.Research carried out by Ernst & Young has revealed that for many businesses which have an annual turnover in excess of $1 billion, spending on green IT practices has risen to between three and five per cent of annual revenue in the last 12 months. Gil Forer, global director of cleantech at Ernst & Young, said: "The increasing interest and activity of multibillion-dollar companies around the globe underscores the growing market opportunities in cleantech." Elsewhere, Sophie Curtis in her blog for Silicon.com recently noted that many businesses are presently looking to manage their costs more effectively and have found that green IT practices represent excellent value in terms of initial investment and the savings they can bring about. She noted that in particular, companies are addressing IT infrastructure refresh rates. ![]() |
