IT has key role in new carbon legislationThe upgrading of IT infrastructure will play a key role in the government's new carbon legislation which is due to come into force next year, it has been revealed.Nick Robinson, technical operation lead at Cisco, told the Green IT Expo 2009 that while it can be difficult for companies to monitor the energy use of their buildings, changes to IT infrastructure could hold the key to future carbon cutbacks. He commented: "We've got the carbon reduction commitment legislation coming into effect as of April this coming year. This is going to effect 5,000 businesses in the UK." The CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme - the UK's mandatory climate change and energy saving scheme, due to start in April 2010 - will feature an annual performance league table that ranks participants on energy efficiency performance. It has been designed to raise awareness in large organisations - especially at senior level - and encourage changes in behaviour and infrastructure. ![]() |
