Hardware issues affect green ITBusinesses should handle the recycling of old or broken technology more effectively in order to improve their green IT credentials, it has been claimed.Tech News World reported the impact on the environment of improperly recycled IT equipment can be devastating and as such, it is imperative that firms get rid of their old IT infrastructure in a responsible manner. Furthermore, the introduction of green guidelines for the disposal of equipment should be mandatory, according to the news provider, as at present just ten per cent of businesses carry out practices based on green guidelines. Elsewhere, Envirotech Online reported that speaking at the Green IT Expo 2009, Brian Charlton from Siemens noted businesses are at present finding it difficult to quantify their energy use. He argued that new means for measuring energy use and carbon emissions need to be developed given the complex nature of the issue and the effect it could have on the environment in the future. ![]() |
