DIY fixes 'hinder data recovery'DIY fixes to solve IT infrastructure problems could lead to problems with data recovery in the future, it has been claimed.Lora Bentley of Kroll OnTrack said that companies should look for professional aid when attempting to resolve IT issues, as in-house solutions could complicate matters during a crisis and lead to additional costs and downtime. She noted: "When you're having IT people reprovision virtual machines, a lot of times the left hand isn't talking to the right and a machine is reprovisioned that shouldn't have been." Ms Bentley added that in many cases, when firms lose data they try a myriad of methods to restore it and this can lead to problems for the professionals. Elsewhere, Heidi Biggar, solution marketing principal at Hitachi Data Systems, recently said firms could boost their disaster recovery readiness by investing in server virtualisation. She argued that virtual networks provide greater protection, improved availability - ie less downtime - and lower risk. ![]() |
