Data centres 'must avoid pitfalls to progress'
Data centre managers will have to overcome a number of pitfalls if they are to improve sustainability throughout 2010, it has been argued.
James Cole, director of Keysource, said a range of critical issues need to be addressed over the next year in order to allow data centres across the UK to cut back on energy wastage and emissions.
He commented: "Difficulties you will see can arise from poor airflow [and] unintelligent location of servers, [while] poor cable management has an impact on the efficiency."
Research recently published in Symantec's State of the Data Centre Report showed 34 per cent of those surveyed who worked with data centres said their major goal for the coming year was to "reduce costs".
Furthermore, 53 per cent expected their funding for the coming year to increase, while 37 per cent noted that the applications which were most increasing the need for data centre storage were "business intelligence, data mining or analytics".
