Cloud computing 'offers improved efficiency'
Business could improve operational efficiency by embracing cloud computing, it has been argued.
Chenxi Wang wrote in a blog for Computerworld UK that the cloud can be used for "every operation imaginable" and enables firms to improve data availability without impacting on productivity and cost.
She wrote: "Cloud computing decouples data from infrastructure and obscures low-level operational details, such as where your data is and how it's replicated."
Ms Wang added that multitenancy, while not common in other IT infrastructure, can be achieved with ease with cloud technology.
Elsewhere, Andy Lawrence, research director for eco-efficient IT at the 451 Group, recently told the Green IT Expo 2009 that cloud computing could help companies improve green IT initiatives.
He argued uptake of the technology is likely to be one of the biggest trends of the next decade, as it allows companies to downsize server networks, while maintaining business function, thereby lower power usage and costs.
