Study predicts cloud growthResearch carried out by the European Commission has predicted strong growth for cloud computing in the years to come.The study forecast a 20 per cent growth in the cloud computing market over the next 12 years, with web-based software one of the key growth areas for IT infrastructure. Frederic Giron, director of consultancy firm PAC, noted cloud computing is becoming one of "the most dynamic" sectors of the IT services industry. He commented: "Open source is also playing an important role in the customisation of information systems, enabling service providers to better serve customer needs." Elsewhere, research recently carried out by Datamonitor revealed that throughout 2009, businesses have been embracing virtualisation technology. The study showed benefits offered by the data management system, such as efficient provisioning, increased data availability and effective use of IT resources, have made virtualisation one of the must-have technologies of the year so far. ![]() |
