Virtualisation competition 'likely to increase next year'Competition for server virtualisation is likely to increase in 2010, it has been claimed.Industry commentator Sharon Lobo said many providers will be offering new services as the year progresses, with IBM, Microsoft and other dedicated providers releasing new products to capitalise on what has been a dramatic growth in popularity for the technology during 2009. Ms Lobo commented: "As virtualisation becomes even more widespread and prolific, users will need to implement strategies and technologies that help them to manage the entire IT infrastructure ... in a robust, yet simplified and user-friendly way." Elsewhere, IT journalist Jon Honeyball recently told PC Pro businesses would be well advised to install virtualisation technology in the near future, as the system offers "no disadvantages". He noted that at present, many companies are operating IT infrastructure beyond its designed capacity and virtualisation could be a possible solution to remedy this. ![]() |
