Virtualisation 'key to efficiency'The uptake of virtualisation technology is key to business efficiency, it has been claimed. The Punch reported the technology enables companies to bring together IT resources from across all their departments in order to boost efficiency. In addition, virtualisation could help firms save space and maximise productivity by having all data at each individual's disposal at all times. "Virtualisation will help the organisations make use of the available space and still use the right kind of technology," commented Manfred Gramlich of Sun Microsystems. He added that in Europe and the US, the technology has already helped firms cut costs by 43 per cent on average. Elsewhere, IT industry commentator Sharon Lobo recently said there is likely to be growing competition among developers in 2010 for virtualisation services. She noted that as the technology become more widespread, a range of new providers are likely to enter the market, with big firms like IBM and Microsoft creating new options for virtualisation for businesses before the year is out. ![]() |
