Data storage market 'to rebound'The worldwide data storage market will rebound over the next five years, it has been forecast.Mayank Bawa, chief executive officer and co-founder of Aster Data, said technological advances will drive the market and businesses will look to improve data storage specifications over this period. He commented: "The next five years are all going to be about data. 1995 to 2000 was all about networking and communications, while 2000 to 2007 was all about computation." Mr Bawa added at present, the hardware is not keeping up with the amount of data being generated. According to a recent report by IDC, worldwide external disk storage systems factory revenues posted a ten per cent year-on-year decline during 2009. However, total disc storage systems capacity shipped reached 2,661 petabytes - growing 21 per cent year-on-year. The research concluded the rate of decline in revenues is starting to slow and the market is experiencing sequential gains over prior quarters. ![]() |
