Companies 'unaware of carbon reduction technologies'Businesses remain blinkered to the amount of carbon emissions reduction technology which is currently available to them, it has been claimed.Chris Ingle, associate vice-president of consulting at IDC, said there are a number of information and communication technology (ICT) systems which are presently available that companies could use to reduce their impact on the environment. He commented: "Part of the issue is that it is not always IT who are responsible for these areas but IT are needed to help make the decision and help the integration." According to figures published by IDC, if used intensively, ICT has the potential to reduce carbon emissions by 25 per cent in the G20 countries compared with 2006 baseline emissions. This assumption was based on the uptake of critical ICT-based technologies - systems that are currently mature enough to be implemented within three years, given investment and government approval. ![]() |
