Virtualisation 'a top priority'Research carried out by Accenture has shown the top priority for IT heads and chief information officers next year is likely to be the uptake of virtualisation technology. The report showed 63 per cent of business leaders are considering increasing IT spending on technological upgrades during 2010, with virtualisation being the main driver for this rise. Furthermore, 43 per cent of respondents said consolidation and virtualisation were their top priorities for next year. "It is a tipping point. It reflects the longer-term trend that business executives are becoming more engaged in understanding IT," commented Jeremy Oates, managing director for technology at Accenture. Elsewhere, Don MacVittie recently wrote in a blog post for Virtualization Journal that the uptake of virtualisation technology could help improve security for a firm, as it enables businesses to better monitor access to files and IT infrastructure. He added that security management can be improved with virtualisation, as consolidation leads to fewer areas to monitor. ![]() |
