Virtualisation security 'not yet addressed'The problem with virtualisation is that no-one has yet come up with an adequate solution to improve data security, it has been claimed. The Register reported security professionals now need to address this issue for the technology to really take off. A lack of knowledge over real world application of virtualisation must now be tackled, as the coming 12 months could see many businesses considering the technology as part of their data management setups. Blogger Dparker noted: "The points about virtual server sprawl highlight that there are risks, not least of which is the potential for forgotten test applications lurking, unpatched and unattended, in the virtual environment." Elsewhere, research carried out by Accenture and the Economist Intelligence Unit recently revealed the uptake of virtualisation technology is likely to gather pace in 2010, with 63 per cent of business leaders considering increasing IT spending on technological upgrades next year. Furthermore, the survey showed that for 44 per cent of respondents, consolidation and virtualisation were their top priorities for the coming 12 months. ![]() |
