Virtualisation 'a major event'The development of virtualisation technology has been a major event for IT infrastructure, it has been claimed.Gartner vice-president and analyst David Cearley told IT Web that technological advancements in the last decade have helped shaped society and this is a trend which is likely to hold true in the future. As such, the development of virtual machines could herald a dramatic change in the way businesses handle data over the years to come. He commented: "Server, storage, and network virtualisation really opened up the way for managing environments with a lot more agility. The idea of virtualisation and virtual machines is at the core of what's driving cloud computing virtualisation." Elsewhere, The Punch recently reported the uptake of virtualisation technology is key to business efficiency. It claimed virtualisation could help firms save space and maximise productivity by having all data at each individual's disposal at all times. ![]() |
