Virtualisation 'becoming key to DR'Businesses across the UK are seeing virtualisation technology becoming an integral part of their disaster recovery (DR) planning.Research carried out by Gartner revealed virtualisation is set to become a standard DR technique, with other technologies such as cloud computing and mobile applications also important for improved data security in the future. "This does not necessarily mean adoption and investment in all of the technologies. [Companies] should determine which technologies will help and transform their individual business initiatives," commented David Cearley, vice-president and distinguished analyst at Gartner. One of the key findings of the research was the fact data centres are likely to be reshaped over the coming years, with firms expecting dramatic growth in the amount of information being handled at these sites. Elsewhere, Mr Cearley recently noted that technological advancements over the last ten years have helped to shape society and he argued this trend is likely to continue into the future, meaning technologies like cloud computing, hosted exchange and virtualisation could be extremely important in years to come. ![]() |
