Microsoft responds to EC statementMicrosoft has issued a statement in response to European Commission's decision in favour of the company's proposals regarding competition laws.The firm noted its products - including Windows, Windows Server, Office, Exchange and hosted SharePoint - will be used to improve interoperability for IT departments throughout Europe. A company press release stated: "We believe it represents the most comprehensive commitment to the promotion of interoperability in the history of the software industry." It will act to improve cross-border interoperability and enable rivals to use its software to make the integration of IT resources more straightforward. Elsewhere, a study presented at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen - the ICT Sustainability Index - recently showed the UK came third in a list of countries that could make the biggest reductions in carbon emissions through the adoption of green IT. It noted only the US and Japan could have a bigger impact on carbon reduction by switching to green IT technologies. ![]() |
