Likely data storage trends for 2010Firms have been advised on some of the new technologies that are likely to be popular to improve data storage efficiency in the new year.Henry Newman wrote in a blog for Enterprise Storage Forum that Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) technology will allow firms to reduce their reliance on cabling to transfer information and will also provide improved data availability for backups. He noted: "It's been hard to miss all the announcements from server, storage and networking vendors about FCoE products and plans." Elsewhere, James Cole, director of Keysource, recently said improved sustainability at data centres will be a growing issue next year and companies must look to overcome a number of pitfalls if they wish to feel the benefits of improved green credentials. He warned companies must look to tackle energy wastage if they do not wish to fall foul of new green IT legislation being implemented by the government. ![]() |
