Deregulation 'important for broadband upgrades'The process of deregulation could help free up the high-speed broadband sector to make improvements to its services, it has been claimed.Richard Patterson, marketing director for Expert-Broadband.co.uk, said in order to bring the UK up to speed in terms of its high-speed broadband offerings, deregulation and the introduction of government incentives are needed to promote private firms to invest in IT infrastructure and upgrades to the network He commented: "Deregulation of the market would encourage more commercial investment as it has done in France and may be a better option." Mr Patterson added that the UK has been quick to adopt new technologies and it must not now fall behind in its bid to be a tech-savvy nation. According to International Communications Market report, UK consumers make the third highest volume of landline calls in the world and enjoy the lowest mobile and broadband prices. Last year, Brits made an average of 190 minutes of calls a month from landlines. ![]() |
