Businesses 'not ready for disaster'Firms across the UK are not adequately preparing for disaster, it has been stated. The British Insurance Brokers' Association (Biba) has revealed that four-fifths of all businesses that are impacted by a nationwide crisis are forced to close within 18 months of the event. As such, it warned small firms in particular to have effective disaster recovery plans in place to help minimise the impact of any such occurrence. Biba technical services manager Steve Foulsham commented: "There have been slight improvements since our previous research in 2006 but we still have concerns that businesses are still not adequately protected." Elsewhere, IT director Dr Dave Waddington recently noted files should be maintained in the best and most up-to-date condition possible, as this will help speed up a recovery in the event of a crisis. He claimed data quality is in many ways more important than reams of backups that are out of date. ![]() |
