Virtualisation 'to take off in 2010'
Many firms will reap the benefits of virtualisation and hosted exchange technology in 2010, one IT professional has claimed. Neil Barton, director of Hostway, said improved flexibility and cost benefits will make virtualisation one of the biggest new technologies of the coming 12 months, with the ability to consolidate server space, increase data storage capacity and improve data security some of the major benefits that come along with the technology. He commented: "This will allow systems to become both leaner and more resilient, without breaking the bank or requiring a significant investment in time or training from the in-house team." According to research carried out by VMware, 68 per cent of firms believe virtualisation will help improve their ability to respond to changing business needs, while 73 per cent of small to medium-sized businesses have found virtualisation has helped with improving the time spent on routine IT administrative tasks.
