Businesses 'to turn to virtualisation'Many companies could be set to embrace virtualisation technology over the coming 12 months, it has been noted.Deepak Mohan, senior vice-president of Symantec's information management group, said research carried out by the organisation revealed that 82 per cent of companies feel virtualisation will be a priority in 2010, as it can be made to work for both large and small organisations as many of the issues they face are the same. He commented: "Standardising on cross-platform solutions that can manage new technologies and automate processes will drive immediate cost reduction and make their jobs easier in the long run." Elsewhere, law firm Burgess Salmon recently took the plunge in terms of switching to a virtualised office environment. The company noted server consolidation as a result of the action has allowed the business to make annual savings of £30,000 on its electricity bills, as well as providing increased data storage capacity and recoverability. ![]() |
