Internet Explorer 'to be as popular as ever'Although there are a growing number of competitors in the browser marketplace, Microsoft's Internet Explorer is likely to remain the most popular choice for the time being, it has been asserted.John E Dunn, associate editor at Techworld, said while software like Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox are gradually gaining market share, by far the most popular system remains Internet Explorer and until there is a shift in the way people access the internet, this is unlikely to change. He commented: "[Internet Explorer] will continue to lose share but will remain the single most popular browser until a point where browsers in their current form are no longer what matters." According to Net Applications, in December 2009, Microsoft's Internet Explorer led the market with 62.69 per cent, followed by Mozilla Firefox with 24.61 per cent. However, Google's Chrome overtook Apple's Safari as the third most popular web browser with 4.63 per cent and 4.46 per cent respectively. ![]() |
