Disaster advice for 2010Businesses across the UK have been advised on some of the best methods for improving their disaster recovery readiness over the next 12 months.According to Computer Technology Review, firms should look to embrace virtualisation and cloud computing, as well as looking beyond tape recovery systems and to investing instead in disk-to-disk backup solutions. The resource noted: "Every time a system update or change control process is initiated, the business continuity plan should be re-tested to see if it has been impacted and still functions as designed. Do not skimp on exercising your business continuity plan." In addition, downtime should be kept to a minimum, as during these periods productivity can suffer, leading to poor financial performance. Elsewhere, Tech Republic recently noted businesses could improve productivity by up to 80 per cent by profiling data use, identifying information owners and frequently revoking permissions. Furthermore, the publication claimed these efforts could reduce the likelihood that a serious security breach or data loss incident will occur. ![]() |
