Companies 'could improve security with deduplication'Businesses across the UK could boost their data security and efficiency by embracing data deduplication, it has been claimed.Server Watch reported the technology would enable a firm to reduce the amount of data being stored in its servers, thereby making it easier to recover any lost data and to ensure security measures are kept in place. The publication noted: "Data deduplication saves money by sparing valuable storage capacity, lowering network traffic, decreasing backup and restore times and easing those backup and restore efforts at remote sites." Furthermore, data recovery, archiving and backup and all-round data management performance can be boosted through deduplication processes. Elsewhere, Michael Dean, director of advisory services at the National Computing Centre, recently said businesses could reduce costs by ensuring efficient enterprise resource planning (ERP) is carried out. He stated increasing ERP spending could be one way for firms to stay a step ahead of their competitors. ![]() |
