IPv6 'to be important for firms in 2010'Companies aiming to invest in next-generation technologies will first have to upgrade to IPv6 systems, it has been claimed.Simon McCalla, director of IT at Nominet, said IPv6 could make business communications much more streamlined, as well as improving access to the internet and speeding up data transfer, as it is based on more up to date internet number resources than the now obsolete IPv4, which some firms are still using. He commented: "If you plan ahead as part of your normal software and hardware roll out process, you can implement a lot of this as part of your usual technology refresher." According to the Number Resource Organisation - the official representative of the five Regional Internet Registries that oversee the allocation of all internet number resources - software and hardware vendors should implement IPv6 support in their products to guarantee they are available at production standard when needed. ![]() |
