Cloud technology 'is not a backup solution'Businesses have been advised they should invest in a dedicated data backup solution, even if they have recently turned to the cloud."Mr. Backup" W Curtis Preston wrote in his blog for Ajax World Magazine that data recovery professionals would always advise businesses to have more than one way to recover lost information and ensuring files are regularly backed up and archived is one way to make sure this is the case. He noted: "Good backup is much more than mere data protection: Backup must manage data, not just protect it. No basic storage technology will eliminate a real backup solution." Elsewhere, Rob Lovell, chief executive officer at ThinkGrid, recently noted the cold snap that hit the UK in recent weeks will not have had such a significant impact on businesses that have embraced cloud technology, as these server setups will allow users to access company data from multiple locations - even outside the office. ![]() |
