Businesses 'could save with VoIP'Companies could reduce their communications costs by investing in voice over internet protocol (VoIP) services, it has been claimed.Diane Myers, a directing analyst for VoIP and IMS at Infonetics Research, said internet-based communications do not take into account the location of the caller and the receiver when calculating prices and this can therefore result in much cheaper bills in comparison to mobile or landline services. She commented: "The mobile side of VoIP is really just beginning to blossom and, while it is far from mainstream, it is definitely growing in options and innovative offerings." According to VoIP provider Truphone, its new product enables users to use a "smart sim" to gain local rates on telephone calls using VoIP technology no matter their location. The firm noted the system works both in the UK and the US and users do not need to swap out the sim or use complex dial-back systems in order to avoid excessive roaming costs. ![]() |
