High-speed broadband 'to be overtaken'The present setup for high-speed broadband in the UK could soon be overtaken by new 4G technology and next-generation fibre optics, it has been claimed.Speaking at the Westminster eForum Keynote Seminar: Progress of the Digital Switchover & Next Steps for the Digital Dividend Review, Dr Chris Doyle, senior research fellow at Warwick Business School, said the UK could be set to compete with its foreign rivals in terms of high-speed broadband through the introduction technology which provides up to 150 Mb per second bandwidth. He commented: "What this will offer is the opportunity to deliver very fast broadband services over wireless systems using mobile telecommunications infrastructure." According to Broadbandchoices.co.uk, there are many broadband users across the UK who are paying over the odds for their internet services. The firm claimed users who pay for "unlimited" download allowances rarely download more than those who have a fixed limit, meaning they are paying extra but not actually paying hundreds of pounds a year more than they need to. ![]() |
