Server virtualisation 'could boost efficiency'Storage virtualisation could help boost server efficiency for many firms, it has been claimed.Dana Gardner, principal analyst at Interarbor Solutions, said in his blog for IT Director that the majority of businesses utilise less than 20 per cent of server storage capacity at any one time and therefore, the uptake of virtualisation could significantly improve the efficiency with which they handle their data. He wrote: "If businesses don't re-evaluate their storage infrastructures at the same time as they're re-evaluating their server infrastructures, they really won't realise the full potential of a server virtualisation." Mr Gardner added flexibility and manageability could also be improved, as virtual systems are easier to configure and maintain control of than traditional server systems. Elsewhere, Robert Jacques recently wrote in his blog for Financial Director that the careful planning at the implementation stage of virtualisation systems could help firms make considerable savings on server management and data recovery costs. ![]() |
