Businesses 'could save on broadband'Companies across the UK could be paying over the odds for their broadband services, it has been claimed.Andrew Ferguson, editor of thinkbroadband.com, said although cheaper providers often put in place download limits on their services, this might not affect organisations that do not predominantly work online, thereby making these services a preferable option. He commented: "Savings can be made by people, but it is easy to overstate them when we see providers reporting that usage is rising year-on-year." Mr Ferguson added a greater understanding of the needs of businesses in terms of their broadband access could lead to savings in the future for many. According to worldwide broadband speed rankings by Akamai, the UK is presently ranked 26th in terms of its average speeds for data transfer. The company noted the UK has an average of 3.4 Megabytes per second (Mbps). However, the leading country was found to be South Korea, with average transfer rates of 14.5 Mbps. ![]() |
