Cost of lost data revealedThe cost of losing files for UK firms has been highlighted in a new report from the Ponemon Institute.It found that the average cost to per record to UK companies in 2009 stood at £64, up from £60 in 2008 and £47 in 2007. Furthermore, the report noted a cost of £29 per lost record last year was attributed to lost business. "This third annual study shows that the financial impact of data breaches is hitting UK organisations harder and harder each year", said Larry Ponemon, chairman and founder of the Ponemon Institute. Elsewhere, Computer Weekly recently reported a new survey by Ernst & Young has shown that UK businesses are ahead of their international competitors when it comes to information protection and data recovery. It found that 81 per cent of UK firms have implemented controls to protect personal data, compared to the global average of 59 per cent. ![]() |
