£8m virtualisation savings for NationwidUK building society Nationwide has announced it made annual savings of £8 million by investing in virtualisation technology. The firm noted it has been able to consolidate its server stock from 500 machines to just 42 at its UK data centres, resulting in large-scale savings in terms of energy to run and cool its IT infrastructure. A spokesperson for Nationwide commented: "This reduction has not only saved space within the data centre but has also significantly contributed to a decreased carbon footprint through a reduction in power and air conditioning usage." Elsewhere, Arthur Cole recently wrote in his blog for IT Business Edge that more businesses are turning to virtualisation in order to improve their data management efficiency and as a result, focus on backup and data recovery solutions is growing. He noted it is becoming increasingly important for firms to react quickly and ensure they do not suffer excessive downtime and lost data. ![]() |
