New applications for cloud computing set to be released
A number of new cloud computing applications are set to be released that could make IT upgrades more affordable for firms.
Data Storage Connection reported collaboration applications, web serving programs, cloud backup, business applications and personal productivity systems are all likely to take off in 2010.
Eran Farajun, executive vice-president for Asigra, commented: "By using cloud-based services, companies are taking advantage of shared hardware and software resources to meet the needs of their customers and their prospects."
He added the only problem that remains is the fact many firms do not have the IT infrastructure in place to cope with the demand that will be created during an economic recovery and this is something which needs to be addressed quickly.
Elsewhere, research carried out by Chadwick Martin Bailey has revealed 24 per cent of IT professionals do not know what cloud computing is.
The study showed a significant proportion confused the technology with Software-as-a-Service or hosted exchange systems, while some felt it was a kind of outsourcing.
