Business communications 'dependent on email'Firms have been advised they should have effective disaster recovery systems in place to prevent their email servers going down in times of crisis, as this could be one of the main lines of communications for workers.Computer Technology Review reported having in place a robust and well thought out data recovery plan could mean the difference between success and failure when an emergency hits. Deborah Fallows, senior research fellow for the Pew Internet Project, commented: "Email is an integral part of American workers' lives. Virtually all employed Americans (98 per cent) use email on the job." Elsewhere, the setting up of a new fibre optic network in Manchester could be the start of a trend across the UK that could aid firms in their ability to carry out data recovery processes. Dan Grabham, editor of TechRadar.com, said the development would help improve broadband services in the city and could help the UK move up the rankings in terms of average broadband speeds around the world. ![]() |
