VoIP 'is being embraced'Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) communications are being adopted by businesses and individuals alike across the UK, it has been claimed.David Lemelin, practice leader and senior analyst at In-Stat, said VoIP could be become increasingly popular due to its affinity for reducing costs and its ability to improve communications flexibility for people working outside the office. He commented: "The use of Skype, or some other broadband IP telephony solution, is attractive to work from home, or for distributed and mobile employees." Mr Lemelin added there are a range of VoIP solutions presently available, including instant messaging systems, as well as in-house or third party solutions. According to Dell'Oro, during 2010, VoIP subscriber growth is expected to accelerate due to an improving housing market and aggressively priced bundled offerings from service providers. Furthermore, improved economic conditions are likely to bolster network modernisation projects that were deferred during the brunt of the recession and associated economic uncertainty. ![]() |
