Tips to control Sharepoint effectively
Controlling a Microsoft SharePoint collaboration environment is a matter of limiting the amount of information that is shared, reports CIO.
Writing for the publication, Shane O'Neill explains that unmediated installations can become out of control as content is piled on to the server by end-users.
"Since SharePoint is in use nearly all the time with users and data coming and going, it must be constantly monitored," writes Mr O'Neill.
He adds that now is the time for business users of SharePoint to begin to determine the merit of the new features coming up in the impending release of Microsoft SharePoint 2010.
This should be done with both end-users' benefits from wikis and blogs, and IT professionals' gains from backup, recovery and application management firmly in mind.
Among the new features of the new version is SharePoint Workspace, which makes offline access to the SharePoint MOSS easier using a client-side application.
Besides functioning as a client to the SharePoint MOSS itself, Workspace can also enable peer-to-peer collaboration on projects, but cannot do both at once, according to Mr O'Neill.
