Firms 'must be smart about data storage'Companies across the UK have been urged to invest in data storage systems in order to ensure they have sufficient server stock to handle growing volumes of information in the years ahead.Alec Selvon-Bruce, Europe, the Middle East and Africa eco-solutions champion for Hitachi Data Systems, said in a speech on digital Britain and the data centre that the supply of servers is falling behind demand at present and therefore businesses must move quickly to ensure they are well provisioned for the months to come. He commented: "Let's do more with less. Digital Britain is looking to revolutionise how public data and infrastructure is managed." According to a recent study by Symantec, 83 per cent of enterprises rate data security as somewhat or absolutely important, with 82 per cent of firms considering the use of virtual machines in 2010. In addition, 50 per cent of enterprises expect significant changes to their data centres in 2010. However, a third of all respondents felt staff productivity is hampered by too many applications. ![]() |
