Businesses 'should carry out long-term cloud planning'Companies have been advised of the need to carry out long-term planning in order to get the most out of cloud computing systems. However, Roger Strukhoff wrote in a blog for Cloud Computing that while this may be the case, it is incredibly difficult for firms to predict what will be happening in the marketplace next month, let alone in the years to come and as a result, they must ensure their IT infrastructure is flexible and responsive in order to make fast changes. He noted: "Of course companies should take the long-term view when considering major capital investments and paradigm shifts with their enterprise IT! But the reality is that this is simply not possible." Elsewhere, research published by Global Data in its State of Enterprise Security Survey recently showed a third of IT security professionals feel cloud computing can make setting up data security provisions more difficult. Respondents noted that every day new variations on viruses, malware and other attacks are seen, making having airtight data security practically impossible. ![]() |
