Tier 4 'provides data centre security'
Businesses looking to improve the security at their data centres have been urged to invest in Tier 4 technology.
Matt Munson, group technical director at BlueSquare Data, said security-conscious firms could benefit from Tier 4 as it enables them to store the majority of their files in-house.
He commented: "You've got the cloud and it's hard to do that in-house. You have to have the resilience of the data centre. You might need a distributed platform. We've got these systems and they're so integrated, so you do have to be careful."
Mr Munson added businesses in banking in particular could benefit from Tier 4 as instances of downtime can be particularly damaging in this industry.
According to Symantec's 2010 State of the Data Centre study, 50 per cent of enterprises expect significant changes to their data centres in the coming 12 months.
Furthermore, 82 per cent of businesses are considering using virtual machines in 2010.
