VoIP 'to become widespread'Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) communications are to become commonplace over the next few years, one industry expert has claimed.George Van Horn, senior analyst at IBISWorld, said there is potential for widespread uptake of the technology due to its unique cost-saving abilities and its integration into handheld devices. He commented: "High-definition VoIP will play a role in improving phone call quality and service options, which will contribute to the growing user base." Mr Van Horn added handheld broadband will become commonplace over the next decade and VoIP is ready to make the most of this transition, making extensive VoIP adoption a reality. According to figures from market research firm In-Stat, the total number of mobile VoIP users could reach 288 million by the end of 2013. The firm claimed that by this date, more than half of these users will be associated with online mobile VoIP providers. ![]() |
