SaaS 'will be commonplace'
Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) systems will one day be the norm for IT infrastructure in business, it has been claimed.
The Economist reported web-based applications - and in particular SaaS - will be easier to manage than the present system of separate applications running on computers throughout a network, as data availability and access upgrades are key to creating a more streamlined business environment.
The article noted: "Today, virtual money dominates the money supply. In much the same way, virtual processing will one day dominate the computing supply."
At present, however, cloud uptake is being stifled by a lack of awareness among IT bosses, but this could soon change as more people become switched on to the benefits of SaaS.
Elsewhere, Ian Grayson, technology journalist at Hydrapinion, recently said Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) communications will eventually become the standard for all voice calls.
He claimed VoIP uptake could be accelerated by the availability of services on mobiles and the fact call costs can be exceedingly lower than present mobile charges.
