Companies advised on data security risksA high proportion of businesses are ill-prepared for data loss and as such, could fall foul of new legislation to make firms accountable for any losses, it has been claimed.Fresh Business Thinking reported Stewart Room, keynote speaker at the upcoming InfoSecurity Europe conference, claimed that up to a third of organisations are presently not prepared for data secutrity breaches in the future. He noted the impending introduction of fines of up £500,000 by the Information Commissioner's Office could spell problems for those that are unprepared. As a result, Mr Room argued firms should ensure they have a framework in place to recover lost files quickly and efficiently and should also endeavour to tighten data security as much as possible. Elsewhere, Luis Corrons, technical director for Panda Security, recently said improving staff training is key to businesses boosting their data security. He noted ensuring workers are aware of the implications of poor data security is paramount to long-term business continuity. ![]() |
