VoIP 'not yet taken off'Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) will only really take off once the supporting infrastructure for it has come online, it has been claimed.Speaking at UC Expo, Tan Aksoy, chief executive officer and founding director of Telappliant, said only when systems are able to integrate "seamlessly" will VoIP communications really come to the fore. He commented: "When you go to a point where Wi-Fi is free and your phone can seamlessly connect [to] your office or your telephone system then mobile VoIP will also kick off." Mr Aksoy added many businesses have already embraced VoIP, but the technology is still a fair way from maturation in the UK. According to Juniper Research, demand for mobile access to Web 2.0 applications will see related annual revenues from these products reach $18.9 billion (£12.5 billion) by 2014. This will be followed by rapid growth in the social web, encompassing social networking, user-generated content, chat and professional applications, the report claimed. ![]() |
