Global data protection laws 'required'The introduction of a set of global data protection laws are needed to help safeguard information stored in the cloud, it has been claimed.A number of European leaders have called for emergency measures to be put in place to help improve data security for firms that have embraced cloud technology, as well as the need for clarification on responsibilities for information stored in this manner. Francesco Pizetti, president of the data protection authority of Italy, commented: "It is not possible to continue to guarantee the protection of citizens' data without very strong international rules accepted by all countries around the world." Elsewhere, Jens Kirschner, spokesperson for 7safe, recently noted businesses in the private sector need to improve their data security protocols as cybercriminals are increasingly targeting these organisations. He claimed the private sector seems to be lagging behind public organisations and this could prove costly if criminals are able to infiltrate confidential records and steal information. ![]() |
